There are many things in the world that contribute to people, knowledge and skill wise. Video Games play a huge role in both knowledge and skill because certain games teach people valuable life skills that they carry on in life with. In the article by ABC News, “The Benefits if Video Games,” it gives many reasons why video games are beneficial a few being social skills, and emotional skills. The article explains how great all video games are, even the violent games. It explains how video games help people gain skills, “…researchers found that participants who had just played a "pro-social" game... must work together to help each other out as compared to those who had just played a "neutral" game (e.g. Tetris) were more likely to engage in helpful behaviors” (ABC News 19). Video games teach people to be more social by playing with other players to fulfill one mission. For example, the Call of Duty games have game modes that allow people to play on teams to win a mission. It helps to keep people talking to one another, and that can make the players more social in the real world. Games like Super Smash Bros. help people gain social skills through the teamwork. Some modes allow people to work with one another to defeat the opponents. Which includes talking between the teammates.

Another reason why video games are beneficial is because some games promote exercise. Consoles such as the Wii, and the Xbox Kinect have motion-controlled games that require physical movement. Games such as Wii Sports, have multiple sports like running, baseball, and tennis which actually call for exercise. In the article, it explains, “39 Boston middle-school children who played with six different interactive gaming systems found that the games "compared favorably with walking on a treadmill at three miles per hour, with four out of the six activities resulting in higher energy expenditure” (ABC News 35). The exercise based games are sometimes even better than other ways of exercise because the game require more than just running. The games require the players to move around and actively participate. Which most people enjoy more than a visit to the gym or a mile run on the treadmill. The last benefit of video games is personal confidence. Confidence is something many people struggle with because everyone wants to feel accepted. Video games help people achieved that through levels of games. People love to unlock and beat the new level. They love the process of getting to that height of victory. Once that is accomplished, it gives the player a sense of happiness that they carry to the real world. It just makes the brain work in a way that is preferred. Giving them the confidence to do real world things. I can relate to the social aspect of video games because I used to play Wii Sports with my sister back in the day. Playing the games together made use bond in a more competitive way . The games inspired us to actually go outside and do the real activities. That just goes to show how much video games had an impact on my life.
